SD-WAN
Also called Software-defined WAN, Software-defined wide area network.
Definition
SD-WAN is software-defined wide area networking: it connects sites over a mix of links, such as broadband, mobile and private circuits, and routes traffic by application policy from central management.
Why it matters when you’re buying
It can lower circuit costs and improve application performance at branches. It is increasingly bought together with cloud security as part of SASE, so consider how the two will fit.
How it relates to other terms
SD-WAN is the networking half of SASE and often connects edge sites back to the cloud and data centre.
