In short

This topic covers the networks that connect users, sites, data centres and clouds: SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, 5G, routing, load balancing, DNS and content delivery. Buyers care because networks are long-lived investments, and licensing models, cloud-managed options and the merging of networking with security change what a refresh looks like.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is SD-WAN?

Software-defined wide area networking connects sites over a mix of links, such as broadband, mobile and private circuits, and steers traffic by application policy from central management.

Cloud-managed or on-premises network management?

Cloud-managed networking simplifies running many sites and gets new features faster, but depends on the vendor’s service and subscription. On-premises management suits environments that must stay isolated.

Why are networking and security merging?

Users and applications have moved outside the corporate network, so security checks increasingly happen in the same cloud services that route traffic. That is the idea behind SASE.
