Secure access service edge (SASE)
Also called SASE.
Definition
SASE is an architecture that combines wide area networking, such as SD-WAN, with cloud-delivered security services including secure web gateway, cloud access security broker and zero trust network access.
Why it matters when you’re buying
It moves security checks close to users wherever they work and can replace a stack of separate appliances. The security half on its own is often called security service edge (SSE). Single-vendor and multi-vendor designs both work, so decide which you want early.
How it relates to other terms
SASE brings SD-WAN and ZTNA together, and is one of the main ways organisations deliver zero trust.
