Zero trust network access (ZTNA)
Also called ZTNA.
Definition
Zero trust network access gives users access to specific applications after checking identity and device, instead of placing them on the network as a VPN does.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Replacing broad VPN access with per-application access shrinks what an attacker can reach with one stolen login. Check support for older and non-web applications, which often decides how much VPN you can actually retire.
How it relates to other terms
ZTNA is a core part of zero trust and of SASE, and it relies on your identity and access management system to know who is asking.
