Glossary
HPC job scheduler
Also called Workload manager.
Definition
An HPC job scheduler hands out a cluster’s compute resources to queued jobs according to priorities, quotas and resource needs.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Scheduling decides how fully expensive hardware is used and how fairly teams share it. Many sites now run traditional HPC schedulers alongside Kubernetes for AI work, so check how the two coexist.
How it relates to other terms
Schedulers run GPU clusters, and Kubernetes is increasingly used next to them or in their place for AI workloads.
