Glossary
Kubernetes
Also called K8s.
Definition
Kubernetes is an open-source system for deploying, scaling and managing containers across a cluster of machines.
Why it matters when you’re buying
It has become the common platform for containerised applications on-premises, in the cloud and at the edge. Most buyers choose between managed services and distributions, so upgrade support, security defaults and the cost of running many clusters matter most.
How it relates to other terms
Kubernetes schedules containers; operators extend it to run complex applications, and a service mesh manages traffic between the services it hosts.
