Glossary
Egress fees
Also called Data transfer fees.
Definition
Egress fees are charges a cloud or storage provider applies when data leaves its network, and sometimes when it moves between the provider’s own regions or zones.
Why it matters when you’re buying
They are easy to overlook at contract time and can make moving data, running across clouds or leaving a provider cost more than expected. Model data flows before choosing an architecture, and ask how fees apply to backup, replication and exit.
How it relates to other terms
Egress is a common FinOps finding, a hidden cost of multicloud designs, and a key line in object storage pricing.
