FinOps
Definition
FinOps is an operating practice that brings engineering, finance and business teams together to manage cloud spending, so costs are visible, owned and weighed against value.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Cloud costs scale with usage, and engineers make spending decisions every day, so cost control can’t sit with finance alone. Good FinOps gives each team its own numbers and a way to act on them.
How it relates to other terms
Egress fees and per-use pricing models such as serverless are two of the things FinOps teams watch most closely.
