Post-quantum cryptography (PQC)
Also called PQC, Quantum-safe cryptography.
Definition
Post-quantum cryptography is the family of encryption and digital signature algorithms designed to stay secure against attacks by large quantum computers.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Data captured today could be decrypted once such computers exist, and replacing cryptography across an estate takes years. Start with an inventory of where cryptography is used and ask vendors for their migration plans.
How it relates to other terms
It is the defensive response to quantum computing, and for most organisations the more urgent of the two.
