Isolated recovery environment
Also called Cyber recovery vault, Clean room recovery.
Definition
An isolated recovery environment is a separate, tightly controlled environment that holds protected copies of critical data and systems, where they can be checked and restored after a cyber attack.
Why it matters when you’re buying
It gives you a trusted place to rebuild when production, including identity systems, may be compromised. Plan which systems go in it, how copies are checked for malware and how often you rehearse a restore.
How it relates to other terms
It holds immutable copies, and rehearsals show whether you can meet your RTO when everything else is down.
