Glossary
Infrastructure as code (IaC)
Also called IaC.
Definition
Infrastructure as code is the practice of defining infrastructure, such as networks, servers and cloud services, in version-controlled files that tools apply automatically.
Why it matters when you’re buying
It makes environments repeatable, reviewable and quick to rebuild, which helps both delivery and recovery. Check the tool’s licence and ecosystem, how its state is secured and how drift from the code is detected.
How it relates to other terms
GitOps applies the same idea continuously from a repository, and platform teams package IaC into templates other teams can reuse.
