Passkey
Definition
A passkey is a sign-in credential based on public-key cryptography, stored on a device or in a password manager, that replaces a password and resists phishing.
Why it matters when you’re buying
A passkey only works on the genuine site and there is no shared secret to steal, which removes a common way accounts are taken over. Check support across your identity provider, your devices and the applications people use.
How it relates to other terms
Passkeys are a sign-in method your IAM system has to support, and phishing-resistant sign-in is usually the first step of a zero trust programme.
