Glossary
Operational technology (OT) security
Also called OT security, ICS security.
Definition
OT security protects the systems that monitor and control physical equipment, such as industrial control systems, building management and utility infrastructure.
Why it matters when you’re buying
In these environments safety and availability come before confidentiality, and many devices can’t be patched or scanned like IT systems. Look for passive monitoring, asset discovery and segmentation designed for industrial protocols.
How it relates to other terms
It covers IIoT devices alongside older control systems, and segmentation is usually the first control applied.
