Glossary
Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI)
Also called HCI.
Definition
Hyperconverged infrastructure combines compute, storage and networking on standard servers managed by software as one system, instead of separate storage arrays and servers.
Why it matters when you’re buying
HCI simplifies running virtual machines in data centres and branch sites and grows by adding nodes. Compare licensing models, whether compute and storage can scale separately, and the effort of moving away later.
How it relates to other terms
HCI runs a hypervisor on every node and is a common on-premises half of a hybrid cloud.
