Glossary
Feature flag
Also called Feature toggle.
Definition
A feature flag is a switch in code that turns a feature on or off for some or all users at run time, without deploying new code.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Flags separate deployment from release, so teams can ship continuously, test with a small group and switch off a faulty feature in seconds. Old flags pile up, so each needs an owner and a removal date.
How it relates to other terms
CI/CD gets code to production; feature flags decide when users see it.
