AI guardrails
Also called Guardrails.
Definition
AI guardrails are controls around a model or AI application that check inputs and outputs against rules, such as blocking sensitive data, off-topic requests or unsafe responses.
Why it matters when you’re buying
Guardrails are how an AI policy becomes something enforced. Ask what a product checks, whether the rules can be tuned to your policies, how violations are logged and how much delay the checks add.
How it relates to other terms
Guardrails are one defence against prompt injection, and human review is the fallback for decisions the rules can’t settle.
