Comparing Coralogix with open source observability backends

We put the same OpenTelemetry data into four backends, Coralogix, ClickHouse, OpenSearch and a Loki, Tempo and Prometheus stack, then set an agent twelve questions against each one, from counting spans to working out what is wrong in a system it has never seen. Then we forced the agents to continue investigating until they got […] The post Comparing Coralogix with open source observability…

Can you bake Maven into a neural network?

We tried, and it builds. We compiled the decision-making part of a Maven-style build tool into a fixed weight matrix and used it to build a real Java library. The output matches Apache Maven's byte for byte. A clean build with tests took 1.49× as long as the same logic written in Python (95% interval […]

Temporal Serverless Workers on Cloud Run: Scale workers ahead of demand

The open-source Temporal execution platform is rapidly becoming a foundational layer of modern software infrastructure, especially for orchestration in distributed systems and AI agent workloads. However, deploying and scaling workers in Temporal comes with unique challenges. Workers poll for tasks instead of serving requests, so request-driven serverless platforms can be an awkward fit. This…

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is open-source software free to use in a business?

Usually free of licence fees, but every licence has conditions. Permissive licences ask for little beyond attribution; copyleft licences can require you to share changes when you distribute the software. Keep a list of licences your legal team has approved.

What happens when a vendor changes an open-source licence?

Existing releases stay under their original licence, but new versions may carry restrictions, and communities sometimes fork the project under the old terms. Ask vendors about governance and whether the project sits with an independent foundation.

Who supports open-source software?

Community projects rely on volunteer and sponsored maintainers and offer no guarantees. Commercial support comes from companies selling subscriptions, managed services or enterprise editions. For critical systems, decide which you need before you depend on it.
